Zindagi Now Project

Skills Development and Livelihood Training

At the heart of Zindagi Now’s livelihood programs is the preservation and advancement of Afghanistan’s rich tradition of jewelry craftsmanship. Building on years of experience in artisan training and international market engagement, the organization provides comprehensive jewelry-making and gemstone-cutting training to Afghan women and men seeking sustainable income opportunities and professional skills.

Participants receive hands-on instruction covering the entire jewelry production process, from initial design concepts to finished products. Training includes jewelry design, drawing and prototyping, metalworking techniques, stone setting, polishing, finishing, quality control, and product presentation. In parallel, trainees develop specialized gemstone-cutting and processing skills, enabling them to work with Afghanistan’s renowned precious and semi-precious stones and add value to locally sourced materials.

The program combines traditional Afghan craftsmanship with contemporary design principles and market requirements, helping participants produce high-quality products that can compete in local and international markets. Through practical workshop-based learning, mentorship, and production experience, trainees gain both technical expertise and professional confidence.

To complement these vocational skills, Zindagi Now also offers business and entrepreneurship training, including financial literacy, bookkeeping, inventory management, sales and marketing, customer relations, and small business development. English language and basic administrative training may also be provided to strengthen participants’ communication skills and expand future employment and business opportunities.

Recognizing that participants come from diverse educational and professional backgrounds, training is tailored to individual learning needs and delivered in an inclusive and supportive environment. The program not only equips individuals with technical and business skills but also creates pathways to employment, entrepreneurship, and long-term economic self-reliance.

Through its integrated approach to jewelry production, gemstone processing, and business development, Zindagi Now empowers participants to transform traditional skills into sustainable livelihoods while contributing to the preservation of Afghanistan’s cultural heritage and artisan economy.
